Dental Crowns (Caps)

  • What is a Crown?

A crown, also called a dental cap, is a cover that your dentist can put over a damaged or missing tooth to restore stability. In areas such as Bowdon, GA, Carrollton, GA, and Villa Rica, GA, dental crowns are commonly used to improve the strength of the tooth and return it to its original appearance, function, and size. The most common reasons a crown is needed are:

    • To support a large filling from a cavity threatening the health of a tooth.
    • To cover a discolored or misshapen tooth.
    • To cover a dental implant.
    • To support a fractured or broken tooth.
    • To support a tooth after a root canal.
  • What are Crowns Made Of?

Crowns can be made from a wide variety of different materials including porcelain, gold alloy, base-metal alloy, and porcelain-veneered zirconia. If you are looking for a restorative dentist in Carrollton, GA to explore these options, we can help. At Bain Dental Group we offer the following types of crowns:

    • Gold
    • Lava™ and BuxZir®
    • Porcelain
    • Semi-Precious
    • Zirconia
  • How is a Crown Attached?

It will take two separate visits to complete this dental procedure. In the first visit, the dentist will shape your tooth and remove any decay in or around it. Then the dentist will re-sculpt the tooth to make it an ideal fit for the crown. A digital image will then be made so your custom crown can be created. Before the end of the first visit, a temporary crown will be made out of tooth-colored resin which will then be fitted onto the tooth to wear until your custom crown is ready.

Once we have your custom-made crown we will then remove the temporary crown and fit the permanent crown onto your tooth. Whether you are seeking dental crowns in Bowdon, GA, Carrollton, GA, or Villa Rica, GA, we ensure that each crown is tailored to meet your specific needs. After checking to ensure the look and fit of the crown is correct, we will put the permanent crown into place with dental cement.

  • How Long Will the Crown Last?

You can expect your crown to last for a number of years, so long as you make sure to practice good oral hygiene and get regular cleanings. The exact number of years may vary depending on the type of material you chose for your crown.  If you are looking for a restorative dentist in Carrollton to explore these options, we can help
